Multi-Engine · Diamond DA42-VI NG

Twin engines.
Airline-ready hands.

Every multi-engine course at CRAFT runs in the Diamond DA42-VI NG. Jet-A diesel twin, single-lever FADEC engine controls, G1000 with GFC700 digital autopilot, the same family of automation airlines fly behind. Modern systems means less pilot workload, fewer surprises, and a smoother bridge to the airline cockpit. The checkride is booked when you book the course.

Four ways
into the twin.

The FAR doesn't set a minimum hour requirement for most multi-engine ratings. The numbers below are our standard packages. We tailor to your experience and proficiency.

Course 01 · Add-On

Multi-Engine Add-On

3 days + checkride day · No FAA written

Add-on rating to an existing Private or Commercial certificate. No knowledge test, no minimum time, you just have to demonstrate proficiency. Most pilots reach checkride-ready in 8 hours.

  • Up to 8 hours dual instruction in the DA42-VI NG
  • Use of the Redbird AATD simulator
  • 3 hours of aircraft for the checkride
  • Already instrument-rated? Most pilots add multi-instrument privileges

Course 02 · CPL Initial

Commercial Multi-Engine Initial

10 days + checkride day · CMEL Initial

For pilots with private who want to earn commercial privileges in a twin. Most efficient path if your end goal is the airlines. Counts toward the 50 hours of multi for ATP.

  • Up to 35 hours dual instruction in the DA42-VI NG
  • Use of the Redbird AATD simulator
  • Aircraft use for the checkride
  • Add Commercial Single-Engine afterward in ~6 hours

  • Use of the Redbird AATD simulator
  • 3 hours of aircraft for the checkride
  • Hold CFII? You automatically pick up multi-instrument instructing

How we get it done.

This is our rough draft course outline, but we tailor it to each and every student. Every student has their own strengths and weaknesses, and that's the CRAFT advantage over a Part 141 school: we build the week around you, not the syllabus.

01Day One

Check-In & Ground

  • Document and logbook check
  • Full DA42-VI NG airplane familiarization
  • All the maneuvers ground brief
  • Multi-engine aerodynamics: critical engine, Vmc, drag rise
02Day Two

Two Flights

  • Slow flight, stalls, steep turns
  • All the maneuvers
  • Takeoffs and landings
  • OEI ops
  • Vmc demo
03Day Three

Single-Engine Approaches

  • Single-engine approaches
  • OEI instrument approaches
  • Final combined flight: everything pulled together
  • Mock-checkride pace
04Day Four

Check Ride Day.

DPE is already booked. You've done three days of focused twin time. Walk in, walk out a multi-engine pilot. New ticket, new privileges, every airline cockpit on the table.

The Aircraft

Diamond DA42-VI NG.

Modern, twin-diesel, single-lever digital engine control. The aircraft pilots fly when they want a clean transition into turbine operations. G1000 panel, GFC700 autopilot, and a Redbird AATD configured to the same DA42 controls and avionics.

Always Included

  • Dual instruction in the aircraft for the hours listed in each course

Renter's Insurance

We recommend Starr Gate. About $60 for a month of $25,000 hull coverage, which is plenty for the duration of multi training.

Payment Schedule

  • $1,000 due at reservation to lock the slot and aircraft

Days. Not months.

The biggest reason "accelerated" stops being accelerated isn't instruction, it's checkrides. At CRAFT, we book the DPE before we book your course. Your check ride is locked from the moment your dates are set.
